  About Senator Petruccelli

ANTHONY PETRUCCELLI was first elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in June of 1999, winning the vacant seat for the First Suffolk District in a special election. Prior to becoming a member of the House of Representatives, Anthony served as a neighborhood liaison to Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino. He is a graduate of both Boston College High School and the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.

In June of 2007, he was elected to the Massachusetts State Senate.

During his time on Beacon Hill, Senator Petruccelli has served in a multitude of roles. He has served as the chair of the Boston Delegation and the Committee on Election Laws. In January of 2007, Speaker Salvatore DiMasi appointed him Chairman of the Committee on Community Development and Small Business. The Committee is responsible for fostering the economic growth of the Commonwealth while helping small businesses succeed in local cities and towns. In addition to serving as chair of the Committee on Community Development and Small Business, Senator Petruccelli was appointed as Co-Chair of the legislatively created Metropolitan Beaches Commission. The Metropolitan Beaches Commission was given the duty of studying the current conditions of the Commonwealth’s Metropolitan Beaches as well as ways to improve the quality of them in terms on maintenance, cleanliness and safety.

Although Senator Petruccelli has proven himself to be a knowledgeable and respected member of the Legislature, he has remained focused on the quality of life issues that affect his East Boston district. He has continuously fought against the expansion of Logan Airport while mandating that MassPort pay for the maintenance of the new 17 acre Bremen Street Park. He has been closely involved in the development along East Boston’s once remote waterfront. He passed legislation that helped usher along the development of the Maverick Gardens Hope VI project. Senator Petruccelli has advocated for the modernization of the Orient Heights T Station as well as the development of the old Joseph Barnes School as a state-of-the-art housing facility for East Boston senior citizens.

Senator Petruccelli currently resides in his hometown of East Boston along with his wife Alessandra and daughter Alexa.
