Every citizen is entitled to feel safe and secure in their home and their neighborhood. Every child should feel the same way in their school. Crime – on our streets and in our schools – threatens not only our peace of mind but our physical well-being. Community policing has long been shown to be an effective instrument for crime prevention and tough enforcement of even minor infractions like graffiti can turn around a neighborhood. However, anti-crime measures must be linked to preventative programs. Too often the mentally ill and those trapped in substance addiction are left without proper support and treatment.
Anthony Petruccelli has a long record of supporting both prevention and enforcement approaches:
· Supported funding for Shannon grants to combat gang violence and community policing to build safe neighborhoods
· Sponsored funding for Maverick Landing Community Services designed to keep vulnerable youth out of trouble
· Lead sponsor of the “Act Relative to the Transportation of Hazardous Materials” requiring better track of vehicles transporting hazardous and dangerous materials.
